It was an international assortment of debs from the UAE, China, Sweden, Czech Republic, and a slew of other countries. But in contrast to most of the other girls, this was a last minute effort on my end—I went to London for my dress fitting with on the Tuesday before the ball, right after I hopped out of a research seminar with my books still in my bag. This was all happening only three weeks after I arrived in England! And while I enjoyed the festivities (prep and all) immensely, my mind was on an essay that was due in a few days. In fact, I spent my free time between rehearsals and wardrobe trying to read a book about British intellectuals. Most girls hope to be the belle of the ball—I stake my chances on being the nerd of the ball. I don't think my professor would have accepted "being a debutante" as an excuse for late work!
While the 19 other debutantes and I got ready backstage for our ball, a German film crew swept through the room, asking some of the debs about our family backgrounds and what we enjoyed doing on the weekends. Most of the girls were busy taking selfies to show their friends, but I was behind on my paper about the history of women’s higher education in Britain. So I hid in the corner, false lashes still drying, silently reading an essay by Virginia Woolf.
The next part of a descriptive essay outline is the body. Here, the writer elaborates each of the pointers that he has written. Normally, one point can be detailed in one paragraph. So the length of the descriptive essay would depend on how many ideas the writer would want to point out. In the topic 18th birthday celebration of a friend, the food, the venue or the guests cheering for the debutante as she walks up the stage could be widely discussed. The writer should be able to create a setting that would connect him to his readers and make them feel as if they are part of the party.
For example, the topic is about the 18th birthday celebration of a friend. The first significant part of a descriptive essay outline is the introduction. Ask which among the ideas written down is the most important and would create a great impact to the readers. Was it the parent’s speech, the debutante’s gown, her first dance, the mood of the whole party? The introduction should contain the general idea of the whole descriptive essay.
